Between the 11th and the 12th of February 2005, the
European Seminar on Education organised by the South-eastern European
Partnership on Accountancy Development (SEEPAD) took place in Sinaia, Romania,
hosted by CECCAR.
On February 10th, 2005, the Council of the South
Eastern Europe Partnership on Accountancy Development (SEEPAD) had an ordinary
meeting in Sinaia.
The Council, chaired by SEEPAD President Dr. Ec. Marin
Toma, analyzed the activities undertook in 2004, as well as the stage of
development of the accountancy profession in South Eastern Europe.
Assisted by USAID, World Bank and ACCA representatives,
SEEPAD Council accepted the membership of TURMOB form Turkey and SCAAK from
Kosovo. Also, it was unanimously approved for the SEEPAD official headquarters
to be located in Bucharest, regardless the country of the President, who is
elected, according to the Charter, once every two years.
Amongst the main action trends of SEEPAD for the
following period are:
1. Training of trainers for International Financial
Reporting Standards and International Auditing Standards, by organizing
regional seminars;
2. Organizing a South Eastern Europe Conference of
accounting and audit, to be attended by all accountancy profession
representatives and SEEPAD member countries government representatives, World
Bank and other international bodies.
3. Initiating activities for increasing the awareness
of SEEPAD member countries Governments, especially where an independent
profession is not established, and developing a public-private partnership in
accountancy and audit.
4. Distributing to SEEPAD member bodies materials
issued by IFAC and FEE concerning accounting and audit; member bodies should
further distribute these materials to all their members and non-members, in
order for all interested parties to be informed about the international events.
